Promoting the Church School: The Ministry's Role

Kenneth Hostetter, drawing on experience as both school board member and ordained minister, describes the church school as an arm of the church. Using a bookstore analogy, he clarifies that the church owns the school, the board manages it, teachers serve, and parents are the customers—yet the church retains final authority over standards and direction. Practically, Hostetter outlines eight key duties of the ministry:

1. Help set policy

2. Give direction in teacher hiring

3. Attend patron interview

4. Assist with board nominations

5. Moderate reorganization meetings

6. Sit on the board in an advisory role

7. Counsel relational and personal issues

8. Visit school as a way to lend support
